Wasted Individual Potential

8.1B people's wasted potential * $30/h (global average pay) * 2,080h (avg. hours worked per person annually), assuming significantly higher value per hour and significantly more Einsteins.
Over 90% of children (1.9B) grow up in developing countries with poor access to education and opportunities. Only a tiny fraction reach top educational institutions and very few people like what they do. Overall, very few reach their potential and derive fulfillment (<0.1%).
Solution 1: Education 2.0. Exalia Grow is a plan to create a global lifelong learning/growth system leveraging the world's best experts and AI to create one extremely advanced, fun and highly personalized system. Grow has the potential is to enable every person reach their full potential and contribute their talents to society. Global Inefficiencies
Waste: $3.3T/y waste in education alone
"Duplication of efforts" refers to tasks that are carried out simultaneously by multiple parties in order to solve the same problem, where a single solution is enough and the duplication is fully or largely unnecessary. The kind of duplication we want to focus on is global one. There are 197 countries, each of which building their own education, healthcare, legal systems and creating administration and organization to run effectively. More often than not, governments are also ineffective at creating those systems and they cost taxpayers a lot. While this made sense in a disconnected world, it sounds absurd in a world where we can share resources and are facing common existential problems. We do not underestimate the complexity and political challenges around creating cross-country collaboration, but we believe online platforms and technology businesses can work across borders and work with consumers and governments to accelerate the rate at which we collaborate globally. We also have interests in individual, organizational and cross-organizational duplication of efforts and believe those cause significant waste too, but need to be explored as a separate case.
Education. Creating a global education system that partners with countries instead of each country creating their own from scratch will reduce costs by at least an order of magnitude due to scale, while also providing higher quality resources and innovating faster. In theory, since global education costs governments $3.67 Trillion (4.26% of global GDP) [1][2], being able to deliver a global education system for operational costs of 370 Billion would alleviate close to 3.3 Trillion to be spent on other problems. We recognize that there will be many barriers in convincing governments to collaborate, yet providing unprecedented quality of education and opportunities to everyone on Earth will drive tremendous innovation and economic growth to humanity.
Waste: $3.3T/y
Food. A global food system that is physically integrated to transport food from farming, to cooking, and delivery to individuals through an underground delivery network. Every person in the world will be able to access high-quality meals without the need to cook, for pennies. This will also solve world hunger once and for all at scale and free up 98% of the money spent on food for other needs and causes.
Health. A fully-integrated, minimal health system accessible from your mobile phone, with medical facilities of the future.
Cities. Human-first, natural cities where people thrive, and hubs for progress and creation where like-minded people gather to build together.
Exalia OS. A global infrastructure that ties all digital systems together and creates maximum efficiency and transparency, including digitizing governments fully and making services automated and accessible instantly through a mobile device.
Digital Identity. Physical IDs are extremely ineffective. Physical IDs are easy to lose, expensive to make, and inefficient to handle. In extreme cases, losing physical IDs can lead to people being strangled in a foreign country, cost a tremendous amount of money, separate close ones, and destroy lives.
One Currency. Creating a fully digital payment system with no fees for the entire world, making transactions quick, instant, and effortless.
One Language. Language has the power to carry powerful messages ingrained in its words. Creating a common language that binds humanity together is a powerful way to pave the future and stand on the same ground, values, and culture. A language of the future.
Shared Metrics. Driving on the same side of the road anywhere, same measurements, temperatures, dates, etc. can save billions globally in system errors and time savings from re-adjustments, enabling the global economy to move faster and more effectively.
Unlocked Collective Potential. Increasingly stepping on the same ground (and digital townsquare) with shared principles and values, we can collaborate better, work on ideas together, and align our priorities with global problems above national interests. This allows us to move forward as one humanity and shape a better future as one.

Over just 40 years, the average American or Brit will spend 71,540 hours on TV/Netflix [1], 35,040 hours on social media [2] and 14,802 on video games [3][4]. This accounts for 121,382 hours and 51.96% of waking time (pre-COVID-19 data). At 4.66 B total Internet users [5], this could add up to 565 Trillion hours at current users and usage.
As the users who spend longest time on Facebook and Netflix tend to be most unhappy [10], there is evidence to suggest that apart from serious time waste, the use of such platforms can also worsen mental health.
As Internet users are estimated to reach 7.5 B by 2030, social media usage growing from 1h 30m in 2012 to 2h 24m at the start of 2019 per person per day [2], gaming time per person and online streaming also increasing [6][7][8][9], time waste is only going to incease. This will be fueled mainly by increasing users and unethical businesses developing strategies to retain users longer on their platforms.

Decreasing sense of community, belonging, and social contact
Harry Harlow showed the devastating effects of broken parent-child bonds and social isolation [1]. Partial deprivation from caretaker in children leads to acute anxiety, excessive need for love, powerful feelings of revenge, and, arising from these last, guilt and depression [2]. Some orphanages have infant mortality rates of 30-40% associated with lack of physical attention and many develop mental disabilities [5][6].
Today, 45-48% of adults feel occasionally, sometimes or often lonely in England, with London being the loneliest at 52% (suggested due to a likely lower sense of community in a large city) [7][8]. Research suggests that loneliness leads to a 26% increased risk of death, carries heath problems equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes a day, exceeds the health problems associated with obesity, can lead to coronary heart diseases, stroke, high blood pressure, depression, cognitive decline and dementia [9].
15.08% of youth (18-25) experienced a major depressive episode in the U.S., with 7.8% of all U.S. adults [10][11]. Almost half (46.4%) will experience a mental illness during their lifetime [12].
As society has become increasingly more career-focused, moved into large and expensive cities, people feel more lonely, struggle with mental health more, and marry less. Overall, especially in large cities, people feel less part of a community. The large number of people experiencing loneliness and mental health problems suggests that the way we currently socialise and engage with others is unable to satisfy our core needs for belonging, love and touch, at scale. More research needs to be done into estimating the social waste this problem is causing, but many are convinced in those problems and the importance of human contact, especially those who personally faced the adverse effects of isolating in COVID-19.
Loneliness, depression, insecurity, etc.
Loneliness, depression, and anxiety have all nearly doubled in the past 20 years. Society is becoming more uncertain, and social media has created isolation and addiction for many, severing essential social ties that are paramount to being a healthy individual.

What values and habits do we want to teach our children and young people? What values are they currently developing? Is art, media and entertainment serving a beneficial, developmental purpose in people's lives, or do they often damage their mental health further by promoting unhealthy habits? What is the damage and cost of that? Facebook reels are a frightening example of radically increasing stupidity of people due to poor content consumption.

We believe online platforms and technology can solve many of the problems outlined above, and, due to the political, financial, and other challenges related to governments, we believe an organisation like Exalia may be the only way to effectively tackle these problems at scale.
